Building and Development
I will encourage reasonable growth in both residential expansion and business development. Development of reasonable housing for county residents and increasing employment opportunities enables our youth to have good paying jobs so that they can continue to make Millard County their homes and raise their families here. I will work closely with economic boards and city governments in a collaborative effort that will benefit both Millard County and individual cities.
Budgets
As a member of the Fillmore City Council, I am experienced with crafting and implementing budgets that avoid debt and maximize tax payer resources. During my tenure, the city’s finances have been very well managed which places the city in a good position and prepared for the future. In my law enforcement career, I have 18 years experience managing a department’s allocation so we stayed within the budget and avoided waste.
Taxes
The recent increases in county property taxes is excessive. As your commissioner, I pledge that I will encourage diversification of county tax revenue and streamline budgets. We need to be better prepared as tax revenue from IPP reduces. I take seriously the managing of taxpayers' hard earned funds and will treat them as the precious resource they are.
County Resources
One area of the County departments I would like to see enhanced is our public safety/Sheriff’s Department. As resources permit, we need to make our deputy sheriff salaries competitive with our other law enforcement agencies in our state. Our sheriff’s department is too often running understaffed and we lose too many of our experienced deputies to better paying agencies.
